Let a man be a man?.... I guess
So, I had a "Laid Back" weekend just passed. Friday after work, I went out with a nice gentleman that I met about a couple of weeks ago. On the way there, I realized that I had no money. Which wasn't that big of a deal because all the driver had to do was stop at an ATM so that I can re-up.
Anyway soon after, the nice young man suggested that I didn't need any money (oh yes, the hell, I do!..I thought). Nonetheless....no one stopped so that I could grab some cash. This was weird because in my mind I was only thinking about how I would get home if I was stranded....not to be cynical...but, push come to shove.
As we walk in, I see an ATM. My guy friend insist that I not worry about it and to enjoy myself. "Let a man be a man", he said "I got you". So, I did, all the while contemplating, why in the world is he bringing sand to the beach.
Truth be told. I really enjoyed myself. He was very attentive at a beach full of sand and a sea full of fish. There was only me.
This may not really mean anything, better yet, make any sense. For a brief moment, there was a "reality check".
There have been a number of disappointing men in my life. However, I feel that it is no excuse.
I twist my hair at my desk today wondering, "Why do I so frequently question good effort?
For all that it is worth, because I hardly know Frank (lets just call him that), he made a genuinely good effort of showing me a wonderful time. And I had nothing else to do but except it. Which made me feel akward (Why is that?).....
When deep down inside, isn't that want I want? To be treated appropriately? Not to be hassled? Not to be disrespected (another subject for another blog)? To just relax and not have to worry about drama such as:Apparently MORE THAN FRIENDS- "FRIEND (s)", Baby mOMMa(s), Psycho(s), stalker(s), ex-girlfriend(s), LIAR(S), commitment issue(s), etc. and questions like, "Where U BEEN? Why don't you ever take me out? Where is your phone? Why DO YOU ALWAYS LEAVE IT IN THE CAR?."....blah blah blah. LOL
All i'm saying is....we all have at least dealt with one or few of the issues above (or maybe all) at some point in our lives..BUT, WHEN SOMEONE COMES ALONG THAT DOESN'T WANT TO FILL YOUR LIFE WITH MAYHEM.....WHY DO WE TEND TO SHUN AWAY?
Truth be told, I did for a quick second....but, I caught myself...then it was all good.
Overall...aside from that one comment that put me in my place, "HE'S ALRIGHT WITH ME!". And, I refuse to tell him how much his response affected me. ALL I KNOW IS, if he ever pulls a gentleman stunt like that again. I'm just gonna have to......
Let him.

It's funny.....we watch these fairy tale movies as children, expecting men to be chivalrous and gentlemen-like. All it takes is one bad experience and most of us don't just have one. You get used to being prepared to pay your own way cause ain't no way this man thinks he's getting some just for footing a $25 dinner bill. We get used to opening the doors for ourselves, and we just get used to men being half-assed.
Regardless, it's always good to be prepared but it truly is an amazing thing when a man acts like a man. It's sad to say but chivalry has so gone out the window and you gotta keep your guard up.....
I hope this man is truly a man and sweeps you off your feet. I'm happy that you had a good time!!
Thanks MeikMeika!
Amen!
